I often see ISO certification discussed in the context of large corporations, but I’m curious about its value for small businesses.

For a smaller company with limited staff and resources, is ISO certification truly necessary, or is it more of a competitive advantage than a requirement? On one hand, having documented processes and quality standards seems like it could help improve consistency and customer confidence. On the other hand, the time and cost involved might be difficult for some small businesses to justify.

For those who have worked in or owned a small business, what was your experience? Did pursuing ISO certification lead to tangible benefits such as improved operations, new business opportunities, or stronger customer relationships? Or were there other priorities that delivered a better return on investment?

I’m interested in hearing perspectives from different industries, especially from businesses that have gone through the certification process firsthand.
